I’ve suddenly become a pitiful blogger, posting a pathetic one post a week, for a couple of weeks. I have a legitimate excuse. In fact, I have several. Want to hear them? OK. Here it goes.
1. I got a job and contrary to popular belief, I actually work when I’m there. I’m PR stud muffin (not my real title) at a local state institution of higher education that pays crap but gives me the opportunity to a) really put my skills to the test and, b) sit down for several hours at a time without having to cook, clean, chase after, wipe the butt of, come with an art project for, kiss a boo-boo, or otherwise entertain a child. I needed a break, and this part time gig actually lets me have more patience when I’m with the little darlings.
2. My new job is 45 minutes from my home in the morning and an hour away in the evening. Funny how that works eh? I blame Boeing. They have entirely too many employees who hit the streets at the same time I do. Strange how they’re not on the streets in the morning with me. Not that I miss them.
3. I don’t have childcare and free time at the same time anymore. Remember that job? Well, my childcare is happening while I’m at it. I did have two mornings a week of sweet relief to focus on my freelance work and whatnot before this job, but now it no longer exists. Attempting to write while the little darlings are awake results in incomprehensible drivel filled with spelling and grammar errors.
4. Harry Potter and Daniel Radcliffe are cuter than all of you put together. A friend suggested I read the Harry Potter books. I thought, what the heck, and took the first one with me on my anniversary weekend away with my hubby. Despite the fact that I’d seen the movies I was sucked in, like so bad that I was driving all over the city to find the next book in the series that was available at the library because there is something like 23,334,287 holds on the other copies. Then I watch each movie once I finish the book. Kid nap time and my evenings belong to Harry now. No offense.
5. It’s football season. I hate football season. Hubby disappears all day on Saturdays when there is a home game of his alma mater. See, his school is a state away. He leaves before the sun rises (inevitably waking the kids before he leaves because they can hear a flea sneeze) and doesn’t return until after midnight. So I single parent it half the weekend too. If it’s an away game, I get to corral the kids while he watches the game in the living room. My fantasy football team takes a plane to Australia and gets Lost…
So, as you can see, I’m not consciously choosing to ignore my duties here. I’m just a bit stretched a bit at the moment. The good news is I’m half way through the fifth of seven Harry Potter books, so I should see things lighten up soon. Or I may run away with that adorable Daniel Radcliffe (but he probably runs faster and will outrun me anyway…).

I feel you!! I have my own excuses (though, even I’ll admit they’re not as good as yours). It must be the change in seasons or something. I’ve totally been slacking on the blogging front, so just know you’re not alone.
And congrats on the job! That’s awesome!

Thanks. Maybe it is the seasons, or just needing a bit of a break. The urge to write about things happening in my life just isn’t as strong at the moment. Possibly because I’m not liking the things I’m thinking and feeling lately and don’t want to share…

Yay on the new gig! Right there with you on the lack of time. “Do what you can, when you can” is my domestic mantra. 🙂

I’ve been slacking in the blogging department lately, too (although I did manage to post yesterday due to needing to rant about a kitchen blunder). Since school has started, I’m at home a bit less because I substitute teach. But even without that, it seems like my schedule has been crazier lately. But that’s part of being a mom!

It is rough balancing everything, isn’t it. I think I need to have myself cloned. I so want to do so many things, but there is just no time after the kids get all the attention the need (be it playing with them, feeding, cleaning up, disciplining, etc.). Add in work and now you’re cutting into sleep to get anything done. I’m glad to hear your getting some work subbing. Money is always good. 🙂
